Basic Motion Offense Guidelines
The basics of the Motion Offense will be run out of the 132, 141, 231, 222 and 312 formations or sets. They coincide with the WHS 5 Rules to a Sound Offense.
1) Maintain Field Balance: imagine a string connecting all members of the 2 triangles together
*when one member of a triangle cuts through the other two MUST follow and fill (rotate)
2) Rotate when the ball is passed from one triangle to the other
*creates a quick give/go look, puts addional pressure on the defense
3) When a player dodges (drives the goal), both triangles rotate with the ball carrier (drive man)
* You will be one of the three, either a;
a. Drive Man (dodging ball carrier)
b. Vacate Man (ball carrier coming to, you get through)
c. Fill Man (adjacent mirror, rotate and replace)
4) APACHE: Dodge or Scoop * Pass * Pass * Dodge or Shoot
*BOTTOM LINE: You must to be communicating and moving, if you're standing around watching or as we say, "killing grass", then you're wrong.
The options out of our Basic Motion Offense will be based upon a screen (pick/pop, pick/slip, pick/roll) game, both on (Slam) and off (Bounce) the ball. Where we will utitilize 2 man games up top, on the wings and from behind. Although the screen game can be utilized within all of our sets, it will be primarily featured out of the 222 formation.
